During our December call, we shared a global learning update focusing on various organizations in Asia where Elliott and Cathy Masie have been traveling since December 1st. Several members joined the conversation to both share perspectives on global learning as well as their organizational learning aspirations for 2012. During our October call, we focused on the potential affordances of nano-coaching/mentoring for learning. Our September monthly call focused on shifts in learning across the CONSORTIUM. When asked what words or phrases best describe the learning focus and shifts in their organizations, member contacts from Intel, Adobe, Baker Hughes, Genentech, IBM, Eaton Corporation, Pioneer Natural Resources, Yahoo! and Wendy’s responded with a wide range of dynamic terms ranging from "Impact" and "Analytics" to "Agile" and "Social". This call was a virtual version of the member Forums we offered around the country in spring of 2011. We sent all member contacts a link to a piece of video to watch in advance, “flipping” our normal monthly call design. Once the call started, we invited participants to respond to that video by asking questions, commenting and sharing their perspectives about current learning trends/challenges, planning CONSORTIUM work for 2012 and more! Member contacts from HCA, Laureate Education, U. S. Army FMWR Academy, CDC, Intel, Waste Management, Wells Fargo, General Mills and P&G contributed to the conversation.

During this call, we addressed the role of checklists in learning, specifically referring to Atul Gawande’s book “The Checklist Manifesto”. Together, Elliott and our CLO Bob Baker explored the many ways in which checklists could be deployed and their relevance to the current learning field.
